Kathmandu, Nov 28: The government is to pursue yoga practice with the goal of inculcating positive thinking among the prison inmates. Yoga camps will be organized in prisons across the country under Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha's campaign of promoting the culture of yoga practice as a self-awakening at the Home Ministry and bodies under it.
A meeting attended by DPM Shrestha, Home Secretary Dinesh Bhattarai, Director General of the Department of Prison Management, Kashi Raj Dahal, regional educator of Nepal Vipasyana Centre Rup Jyoti, former Inspector General of Police Kuber Singh Rana, among others, and held Monday at the Home Ministry decided to start the yoga camp from Nakhkhu Prison.
After the 10-day yoga camp to be held at Nakhkhu Prison, such camps would be organized in the rest of the prisons as well in the same format. There are 74 prisons, including the Central Prison, in the country.
Around 25,000 inmates are kept in these prisons. The yoga camp would be conducted under the management of Nepal Vipasyana Centre, said Centre's Dharmasewak Sushil Shah. The first phase of the yoga camp has been held at Nakhkhu, Bhimphedi, Parasi and Biratnagar prisons before this. ---
