Chinese vice-minister Guo Yezhou arrived in Kathmandu

Vice-minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China, Guo Yezhou, has arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday. He is visiting to express concerns over the recent split of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) amid the deepening political crisis in Nepal.

Guo is visiting at a time when people of Nepal believe China had a role in unifying the then CPN-Maoist Centre and the CPN-UML in 2018 and therefore it is not happy with the recent split.

In the currently developed scenario, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Hou Yanqi, has also increased her political visits with both factions of the split party.

‘The Chinese Communist Party has already expressed its worries over the split. The visit is taking place to express the same concern,” a high-level source within the NCP said.

Sources say the visiting team of vice-monoster Guo will advise leaders from both the sides to reconcile as far as possible.

Along with that, the Beijing government is also concerned if the developing political instability in Nepal could also affect the implementation of various agreements signed between the two countries. Chinese Ambassador Hou had expressed her concerns over this during a recent meeting with the NCP’s Dahal-Nepal faction leader Barsha Man Pun.
